Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of a Maoist group in the area, a team of around 30 CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) personnel launched a search and combing operation.However, the Maoists, having received prior information about the operation, managed to escape from the forest area. Before fleeing, they reportedly planted landmines at multiple locations to target security forces.During the operation, a landmine explosion seriously injured CoBRA commando Alok Das, a resident of Medhipara in Palashbari constituency of Assam. Shortly afterward, another landmine blast critically injured CoBRA commando Narayan Das, who hails from Bongaigaon district of Assam.Both injured personnel were immediately rushed to a hospital in Ranchi for emergency treatment. Given the severity of their injuries, they were later airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where they are currently undergoing treatment.Doctors were forced to amputate Alok Das’s right leg after he sustained severe injuries to multiple parts of his body. Narayan Das also lost his left leg in the blast and suffered serious injuries to both eyes, sources said.The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the family of Alok Das, a CoBRA commando known for his bravery and dedication to duty. According to his wife, doctors have indicated that his recovery may take nearly three months.
