While the party refrained from displaying its flags or banners, Debbarma stated that the Centre was being given a “final opportunity” to address their concerns.

Speaking at the event, Debbarma recalled former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s 1982 decision to establish the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), despite opposition from then Tripura Congress chief Ashok Bhattacharjee.

He drew parallels to current resistance within the Tripura BJP, claiming some leaders oppose the proposed constitutional reforms, even as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Central Government support the initiative.

The protest was led by David Murasingh, a youth leader and close aide of Debbarma, who highlighted the significance of the Tiprasa Accord.

“In 1982, Indira Gandhi overruled opposition to grant Tripura its ADC. Today, some in Agartala echo that resistance. Home Minister Amit Shah must act decisively to implement the Tiprasa Accord, or David’s 2,500-km journey from Tripura to Delhi will be in vain,” Debbarma stated.

Clarifying that he attended as an individual, not as a TIPRA Motha representative, Debbarma urged the Centre to take the Northeast and its tribal communities seriously. “Our honesty and simplicity should not be mistaken for weakness. We may be poor, but we are not afraid,” he declared.
