Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president and former Lok Sabha MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal left the door wide open for a possible electoral alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Ajmal confirmed that a formal AIUDF delegation will travel to Hyderabad after December 2 to hold talks with Owaisi and senior AIMIM leaders.

“The matter is still under consideration. Owaisi bhai has just finished the Bihar elections and is resting right now,” Ajmal said, congratulating the Hyderabad MP for AIMIM’s performance in the recently concluded Bihar polls. “We will sit together soon, and whatever decision is taken will be shared with the media after the meeting,” he added.

The AIUDF chief announced that his party plans to contest a minimum of 35 seats across Assam in the upcoming Assembly elections and expressed confidence that AIUDF would secure more seats than the Congress.

Political circles are closely watching the development, as an AIUDF–AIMIM tie-up could significantly alter vote dynamics in several minority-dominated constituencies in Lower Assam and the Barak Valley.
