AIMIM Plans to Contest 100 Seats in Bihar Assembly Polls, Aims for Third Front

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, announced on Saturday its ambitious plan to contest 100 seats in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, a fivefold increase from the 20 seats it fought in the 2020 polls.

The party, which was rebuffed by the INDIA bloc, aims to establish a “third alternative” in Bihar’s political landscape, long dominated by the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-RJD-led Mahagathbandhan.

Speaking to PTI-Bhasha, AIMIM’s Bihar state president Akhtarul Iman declared, “We intend to field candidates in 100 constituencies. Both the NDA and Mahagathbandhan will have to acknowledge our growing influence.”

Iman dismissed past accusations from the Mahagathbandhan, which in 2020 claimed AIMIM split secular votes, noting that he had reached out to RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav to propose an alliance but received no response. “We offered to collaborate, but they ignored us. Now, we are focused on expanding our presence across Bihar,” he said.

The AIMIM leader also revealed ongoing discussions with like-minded parties to explore the formation of a third front, with clarity expected in the coming days. The Bihar assembly elections for the 243-member legislature are scheduled for November 6 and 11, with vote counting set for November 14.
