AJYCP leader Palash Changmai criticised the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) for initiating trial production of the 2,000 MW project, with plans for full operation by November 10, while Assam grapples with grief over the recent passing of beloved singer Zubeen Garg. He accused NHPC of ignoring the safety and long-term welfare of communities downstream in Assam.

The AJYCP highlighted the stark disparity in benefits, noting that Arunachal Pradesh will receive 1,200 MW of free electricity, while Assam is allocated only 25 MW.

Changmai pointed out that former leaders Ranoj Pegu and Bhubon Pegu had previously led significant protests against the project but have remained silent recently.

To press their demands, AJYCP announced that letters addressing concerns will be sent to the Prime Minister and President through district commissioners statewide.

They further claimed that sit-in protests will be held across districts, as well as road blockades at Gerukamukh, to halt the transport of materials to the dam site. The road blockade is planned for November 7.

The organisation claimed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has yet to issue a public statement on the project.
