Two from Assam arrested in Karnataka for Rs 20 Lakh Theft

The Mangaluru City Police apprehended two individuals on Wednesday for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash worth Rs 20 lakh from three apartments in Lalbagh.

The Mangaluru City Police apprehended two individuals on Wednesday for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash worth Rs 20 lakh from three apartments in Lalbagh.

The suspects, identified as Abhijit Das (24) and Deba Das (21), both from Cachar district in Assam, allegedly broke into the flats between October 19 and 20. They stole jewellery, Rs 5,000 in cash, 3,000 Dirhams and a mobile phone. The Urva police registered a case under charges of house trespass and theft based on a complaint filed by Riyaz Rashid on October 20.

A team comprising senior police officials, fingerprint experts, and a dog squad swiftly investigated the crime scene, narrowing down the suspects. With assistance from Bengaluru City Police, the accused were tracked down and arrested in Bengaluru.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, the duo gained entry by scaling the compound wall and slipping through a small kitchen window. He noted that the suspects are linked to similar crimes in other states, with further details under verification.

All stolen items have been recovered, and the accused are set to be produced before the jurisdictional court, Reddy stated.
