The victim, Lal Mohan Ram from Aurangabad, Bihar, reported that a fraudster had contacted him repeatedly over a month, persuading him to purchase a boat-shaped object falsely claimed to be gold.

The seller convinced Ram to pay Rs 2,00,000, promising a joint resale in Bihar for Rs 6,00,000. Enticed by the deal, Ram travelled by train to Harmutty, where three individuals picked him up on a motorcycle (registration AS07U3497) and took him to a house.

There, they handed over the fake artefact in exchange for the cash and instructed him to wait at Harmutty railway junction for their planned trip to Bihar.

Upon arriving at the junction, Ram discovered that the sellers’ phone numbers were switched off, prompting him to report the incident at the Harmutty Police Outpost.

He was subsequently escorted to Laluk Police Station in Lakhimpur, Assam, for further investigation.

Acting swiftly, a joint team from Harmutty Police Outpost and Laluk Police Station launched an operation on Sunday night, apprehending the prime suspect, Mofazul Islam.

Police recovered Rs 71,000 in cash, four mobile phones, and the motorcycle used in the scam from his possession.
