Senior BJP leader Dilip Saikia on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Raijor Dal chief and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, alleging that he is misleading the public and lacks political credibility.

“Akhil Gogoi has no moral or political strength. He is trying to fool the people,” Saikia said, asserting that the demand for a correct and error-free voters’ list is legitimate and essential for democracy.

He stressed that ensuring a clean electoral roll is the collective responsibility of the Election Commission, political parties, and the public, and demanded that Special Intensive Revision (SIR) be conducted in Assam at the earliest.

According to Saikia, the issue of SIR has been deliberately politicised in Assam.

“Our demand is simple—accurate voter lists. That is why we have demanded SIR in Assam,” he said.

Allegations Against Akhil Gogoi, Lurinjyoti Gogoi and Gaurav Gogoi

Saikia accused Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi of being excessively sympathetic towards illegal immigrants and alleged that Akhil Gogoi shares the same mindset. He also clubbed Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi with them, stating that all three share a “dangerous mindset” that could harm Assam.

“The people of Assam must remain alert. Congress is suffering from intellectual bankruptcy, and its statements reflect immaturity,” he remarked.

VB–G RAM G Scheme Passed After Marathon Parliamentary Debate

Highlighting the Centre’s rural employment reforms, Saikia said that on December 18, Parliament passed the VB–G RAM G Scheme, a restructured version of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), after more than 18 hours of debate. The Congress opposed the Bill.

The scheme aims at holistic rural development, ensuring employment and infrastructure creation in villages. Under the revised framework:

  • Rural unemployed citizens will get 125 days of guaranteed employment, up from the earlier 100 days

  • Daily digital monitoring of works using modern technology

  • Contractors failing to meet timelines will face penalties

  • Provision for unemployment allowance if work is not provided within 100 days

The scheme is built on four core pillars:

  1. Water conservation in every panchayat

  2. Rural infrastructure development, including village roads

  3. Agricultural and allied infrastructure to support farmers

  4. Immediate assistance during natural disasters

Saikia alleged widespread corruption under the earlier MGNREGA framework, claiming that roads were rebuilt multiple times and that 33% of workers were above 60 years of age.

He said that while the previous Congress-led government allocated ₹2.12 lakh crore over 10 years, the present government has allocated ₹8.42 lakh crore in the last decade.

“India no longer needs only slogans; it needs delivery,” he said.

Allegations Over BLA Links and Social Media Post

Referring to a screenshot in circulation, Saikia claimed that Binod Konwar alias Harsh, a Booth Level Agent (BLA-01) from Dimow constituency, has close links with Akhil Gogoi.

He alleged that a photograph posted by Binod Konwar on Facebook on January 4 was later uploaded by Akhil Gogoi on his own profile on January 6, suggesting coordination.

“Akhil Gogoi claims he heard something privately, but the same statement was heard by nearly 200 participants during the VC,” Saikia said.

Demand for CBI Probe Termed ‘Immature’

Saikia criticised Mira Borthakur for demanding a CBI probe into the matter, calling it a sign of political immaturity.

“The opposition is again displaying intellectual bankruptcy,” he remarked.

Alliance Politics and Candidate Selection

On alliance dynamics, Saikia said discussions on partnerships would take place soon.

  • Whether UPPL continues in the NDA will be decided by the people

  • On BPF–UPPL tensions, he said, “If they join the NDA, differences may ease—we will see”

On candidate selection for the Assembly elections, Saikia clarified that the BJP has not sought candidate panels from district units.

“We will take public opinion. Decisions will be made only after surveys, and the final decision will rest with the Central Parliamentary Board,” he said.

Strong Remarks on Citizenship and Electoral Issues

Saikia said the BJP is satisfied with the current revision process but expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as appeasement politics by Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

“They do not want the names of illegal immigrants removed—even if it means removing indigenous names instead,” he alleged.

“Appeasement and illegal-immigrant sympathy are not BJP’s politics,” he said.

Concluding, Saikia warned,

“The mindset of the three Gogois is extremely dangerous for Assam. The people of Assam must stay alert.”
