Police officials informed that the deceased was identified as Neha Das, 22, a resident of Ambari in Guwahati.

Das was a third-year student at RG Baruah College and also taught tuition classes to neighbourhood children to support her family.

Police investigating the incident said that the accident involved a car bearing registration number AS01LC8910 and Neha’s scooter.

The car collided first with a divider before hitting Neha’s scooter.

Neha was reportedly riding her scooter home in the evening after giving tuition when the accident took place.

She had earlier informed her mother that she might leave her scooter behind and was going out to eat with a friend.

Her parents were not initially worried about her late return, as she often arrived home late due to her tuition schedule. However, when she did not answer the phone, her parents got worried, and after a brief enquiry, they found out about the accident.

The car driver was later detained by the Panbazar Police.

Police said that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and are reportedly looking for one more person present in the car during the incident.
