After failing to find any valuables in one flat, they broke into another and looted cash worth ₹15.56 lakh using iron rods and screwdrivers.Acting on CCTV footage and technical surveillance, police apprehended three burglars involved in the crime on Sunday.The arrested accused have been identified as Subhash Das of Bhangagarh, Madhab Das of Dhirenpara, and Kartik Sarma of Darrang. Police also recovered the stolen cash along with screwdrivers, mobile phones, and two scooties used in the burglary.Speaking to the media, a police officer said,“On January 30, a burglary incident took place at Chilarai Path in Beltola at Nirupama Enclave. The burglars targeted two flats. They did not get anything from one flat and then moved to another, from where they managed to loot cash amounting to ₹15.56 lakh.”The officer further added that CCTV footage confirmed the involvement of three persons and that the accused are seasoned criminals.“Three persons were involved in the crime, which was confirmed through CCTV footage. The accused are veteran burglars and have been involved in several burglary incidents across the city, especially targeting apartments,” he said.According to police, Madhab Das was the mastermind behind the burglary.“Madhab Das has been identified as the prime accused in the case. While attempting to recover more stolen items, he tried to escape from police custody at the 10th Mile area near Jorabat,” the officer stated.“Following this, the police had to fire at his leg. He was immediately shifted to a nearby medical facility for initial treatment and later transferred to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
