According to the initial complaint, robbers had broken into the house, raped the widow of late Sayedul, and looted ₹10 lakh in cash along with gold ornaments valued at approximately ₹10 lakh.On November 16, the deceased husband’s family lodged an FIR at Mankachar Police Station, based on which Case No. 152/2025 was registered under sections 329(4)/62/64/306/3(5)B of the NS Act. Following this, the police began a detailed investigation.Arrests and IdentificationDuring the probe, police detained the woman who had levelled the rape allegation, as inconsistencies in her statements surfaced. With assistance from Goalpara Police, officers also arrested the alleged “dacoit” from Goalpara.He was identified as Rahmat Ali, son of Nur Mohammad of No. 2 Badalmari village under Goalpara district.A Dramatic Plot UnfoldsPolice investigations revealed a shocking backstory. After the death of her husband, the widow had entered into an illicit relationship with Rahmat Ali. The duo later secretly married in court in 2022, without informing the woman’s in-laws.Facing financial issues, they allegedly planned to steal valuables from the family. The widow and Rahmat designed the entire sequence to appear as a violent robbery, with the woman fabricating the rape allegation to strengthen the narrative and mislead investigators.Cash, Jewellery RecoveredDuring the operation, police recovered the full amount looted:₹10 lakh in cashGold ornaments worth nearly ₹10 lakhThese items were seized from the possession of the accused individuals.Meanwhile, the investigation and arrests were carried out under the supervision of DSP (Probation) Kishor Patowary.
