The move has been initiated to curtail corruption and discrepancies across state departments.AdvertismentSpeaking on Monday, CM Sarma alleged that there have been instances where some officials in the state Public Works Department have been found deliberately inflating the estimated project expenditures. He cited instances where road projects that are worth around Rs 2 crore were being reflected in balance sheets costing somewhere between Rs 6–7 crore. He said the proposed AI-driven monitoring mechanism, which he termed “AI governance,” would help scrutinise accounts and estimates so that inflated bills and misappropriation can be detected and prevented.Speaking in detail about the initiative, the chief minister said that tools enabled with AI would also be deployed not only in PWD, but across all government departments in a bid to enhance work efficiency, accountability, and ensure the streamlining of all important schemes and projects implemented by the government.Also, while speaking further about the new technological introductions in state governance, CM Sarma had unveiled plans on implementing a new mobile app that solely aims at the real estate section by modernising land and real estate transactions in a transparent and hassle-free manner in Assam.According to the chief minister, the app, expected to be launched by 2027, will allow concerned parties to register property online without the need and hassle of visiting government offices. Starting with real estate registrations, the application project will gradually expand to land records, where AI will have leverage over other labour-intensive resources.It may be mentioned that the announcements were made during the launch program of the Swagat Satirtha Portal 2.0 at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati.
