PWD scandal in Assam: Executive Engineer accused of corruption

A massive corruption scandal has hit the Public Works Department (PWD) in Assam, with allegations of widespread irregularities. Bikash Panging, an executive engineer, is at the centre of the controversy, accused of misusing funds meant for public projects.

According to sources, Panging has been operating without getting caught in the Dibrugarh PWD for over 15 years, breaking rules and regulations to favour certain contractors. The allegations against him include awarding contracts to favoured contractors without following due process and stealing funds meant for road construction projects.

The RTI activist who exposed the scam alleged that Panging has built a vast fortune through his corrupt practices and has been enjoying the patronage of a powerful politician. Investigations have revealed that in the 2022-23 financial year, Panging's department awarded contracts worth crores of rupees to favoured contractors without following the proper procedure.

The scandal has sent shockwaves through the PWD, with authorities facing pressure to take action against Panging and others involved.
