Assam: Congress Rally Disrupted in Biswanath, Party Alleges Attack by BJP

According to the party, the incident occurred when a delegation of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led by state president Gaurav Gogoi, was on its way to Sootea. The delegation included Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, MP Rakibul Hussain, MLA Sibamoni Bora, and AICC national secretary in-charge of Assam, Manoj Chauhan, along with several party workers.

The Congress alleged that supporters linked to BJP MLA Padma Hazarika unlawfully obstructed their rally in Sootea. Party leaders claimed that miscreants threw stones at vehicles carrying Congress members, leaving several workers injured and damaging multiple vehicles.

Following the incident, a large contingent of Biswanath Chariali Police rushed to Borgang to bring the situation under control.

The Congress has filed a formal complaint (FIR) against the alleged attackers. Party leaders accused the BJP of attempting to suppress their growing support in the region.

There was no immediate response from the BJP regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report. Police officials are expected to investigate the matter further.
