Assam: Drug peddler nabbed in Kaliabor, 5 others held

In a significant breakthrough, the Kaliabor Police has arrested notorious drug peddler Samiran Saikia, who had been evading law enforcement agencies for a long time.

A joint operation conducted by Kaliabor Police, Jakhalabandha Police, and Bagori Police led to the raid at Saikia's residence at Baruachuk under Kaliabor Police Station, resulting in the seizure of a huge cache of drugs.

The police team recovered 37.62 grams of drugs packed in 25 plastic containers and 22 empty plastic containers from Saikia's house. The arrested accused have been identified as Hirakjyoti Bora (28) from Deuri Chilabandha, Babul Ali from Kunwritol, Phukan Ali from Langichuk, Vishal Banik from Jakhalabandha Police Outpost, and Abdul Rashid from Kuthori.

The police have launched an investigation to unearth the source and market of the seized drugs. A case (No. 122/25) has been registered at Kaliabor Police Station in this connection.

Speaking to the media at a press conference held at Kaliabor Police Station, Bitul Chetia, Superintendent of Police, Kaliabor, revealed details about the operation, stating that the police are working to dismantle the entire network involved in the illicit trade.
