Meanwhile, extensive damage was reported from Samaguri in Nagaon, where the wall of a residential house collapsed due to the earthquake. The damaged house belongs to Sabir Ahmed of Boraligaon. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident.

The earthquake occurred at 4:17:40 am IST and measured 5.1 on the Richter scale. Preliminary data indicate that the epicentre was located near Morigaon district, at a depth of approximately 50 kilometres, with coordinates at 26.37° North latitude and 92.29° East longitude.

The tremor was felt across several districts of Assam, including Guwahati, Morigaon, Nagaon, Kampur, Tezpur, Rangapara, Jamugurihat, Kaliabor, Balipara, Rangia, Dhekiajuli, Biswanath, Juria, Doboka, Kharupetia, Narayanpur, Kaziranga, Udalguri, Kalaigaon and Dimakuchi. In addition to Assam, the earthquake was felt in parts of Meghalaya, other regions of Northeast India, and neighbouring Bhutan and China.

Meanwhile, speaking to DY365, a geologist pointed out that Assam lies in Seismic Zone V, making the region highly prone to earthquakes due to ongoing tectonic activity.

The expert also mentioned that aftershocks remain a possibility, though their timing and intensity cannot be predicted.
