Assam: Gaurav Gogoi to Lead Statewide Youth Congress Padayatra to Defend Assam’s “Identity”

The Assam Pradesh Youth Congress has launched a statewide padayatra under the slogan “Jati Bosaok, Mati Bosaok” (Save Community, Save Land) to raise public awareness on land rights, constitutional values, and the protection of indigenous identity.

The padayatra titled “Raijor Podulit, Raijor Congress”, is spearheaded by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi. The programme is being conducted in multiple phases, covering key districts across Assam over several days.

According to the schedule, the padayatra will begin on January 3 from Dhemaji, followed by Lakhimpur (Jan 4), Majuli (Jan 5), Jorhat (Jan 6), Sivasagar (Jan 7), Dibrugarh (Jan 8), and conclude at Tinsukia on January 9.

During the campaign, the Youth Congress leaders and workers will directly engage with the public on pressing issues, including land protection, safeguarding indigenous identity, unemployment, and the defence of constitutional rights. Party leaders will also seek to mobilise youth participation and encourage dialogue on matters shaping Assam’s future.

Preparations are already underway in Dhakuakhana for the January 4 leg of the padayatra. The day will start with a bike rally from Matmora embankment to the Mini Stadium, where Gaurav Gogoi will address party workers and supporters. He will then join the padayatra on foot and later participate in a meeting at the local Rajiv Bhawan.

The state Congress chief will be accompanied throughout the campaign by Indian Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib, Assam Youth Congress President Zubair Anam, and other senior Youth Congress leaders.

The details were shared at a press conference at the Dhakuakhana Press Guild by Ananda Narah, Vice President of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, who said the initiative reflects the Congress party’s commitment to protecting Assam’s land, identity, and constitutional values through grassroots mobilisation.
