"The District and Sessions Court in Guwahati will today take up the third hearing in the high-profile case involving Assam"s iconic singer Zubeen Garg.Advertisment All seven accused, Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Sandipan Garg, Shekharjyoti Goswami, Amrit Prabha Mahanta, along with Zubeen Garg"s two personal security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, are likely to be produced before the Sessions Judge through virtual mode, citing security-related concerns. It may be mentioned that the chargesheet has already been filed, and today"s hearing will primarily focus on examining and confirming the applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) under which charges have been framed. Upon the court"s approval of the relevant sections, the trial is expected to formally begin with the framing of charges against the accused. The case has progressed through its preliminary stages, with the first hearing held on December 16, followed by the second hearing on December 22. The investigation was conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police, led by Special Director General of Police MP Gupta. The SIT submitted a comprehensive chargesheet spanning nearly 2,500 pages before the Chief Judicial Magistrate"s Court in Guwahati. The investigating agency has invoked murder charges under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against four accused, Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta.
