Assam: Actor Ashish Vidyarthi, wife injured in road accident during Guwahati visit

A late-night road accident in the Zoo Road area of Guwahati, Assam, left Bollywood actor Ashish Vidyarthi and his wife, Rupali Barua, seriously injured.

According to locals, the incident occurred around midnight on Friday in front of The Guwahati Address Hotel located on Zoo Road.

According to sources, a motorcycle bearing registration number AS01DY5061, travelling from the Dispur side, reportedly lost control and rammed into the couple. The biker was claimed to be riding the motorcycle at a highspeed.

However, some locals stated that the accident occurred as the biker tried to save himself and the couple from colliding with one another.

The impact left Vidyarthi and Barua with serious injuries, while the motorcycle rider also sustained critical injuries in the collision.

Geetanagar Police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after the accident. The injured biker was shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for emergency treatment, while Ashish Vidyarthi and Rupali Barua were admitted to Guwahati's Apollo Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Later, Vidyarthi live-streamed a video on social media and said that now they are all fine and described the injuries as minor.

He also said that hope that everyone stays safe, including the biker who was also injured in the accident.

Ashish Vidyarthi, a National Award-winning actor, is a familiar name in Indian cinema with a career spanning decades across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and other regional film industries. Married to Assam-based entrepreneur Rupali Barua, Vidyarthi has strong personal ties to the state and is often referred to locally as “Assam’s son-in-law”.
