"There is a sense of excitement and anticipation across Assam as the Assam Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party prepares to accord a grand welcome to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who will arrive in the state on a two-day visit beginning today. Advertisment The party says the visit is not just ceremonial, but symbolic of the BJP-led NDA government"s continued commitment to Assam"s development and cultural pride. State BJP Media Panelist Ashish Bharali said that the people of Assam are once again looking forward to how the Prime Minister"s visit will translate into tangible benefits for the state. “Every visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought a new gift for Assam, and this time too, expectations are high,” he said. As part of the welcome, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and dedicate several landmark railway projects aimed at transforming connectivity in the region. He will flag off India"s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train between Guwahati and Kolkata, along with two new Amrit Bharat trains connecting Guwahati with Lucknow and Rohtak. These initiatives are being seen as a major boost to passenger convenience and regional integration. In another significant move underscoring Assam"s growing strategic importance, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a new railway line connecting Kokrajhar in Assam with Gelephu in Bhutan, further strengthening India–Bhutan ties and cross-border connectivity. The BJP has also planned a unique cultural welcome for the Prime Minister. Reflecting the state government"s efforts to take Assam"s traditions to the global stage, nearly 10,000 dancers will perform the Bagurumba dance of the Bodo community at the Arjun Bhogeshwar Baruah Sports Complex, Sarusajai, in the Prime Minister"s presence. Party leaders say this cultural showcase will reflect Assam"s unity, diversity, and pride in its indigenous heritage. Alongside culture and connectivity, the visit will also focus on conservation and infrastructure. As part of the programme, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the 34-kilometre-long Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, a ₹6,900-crore project aimed at protecting wildlife while ensuring smoother transportation through the ecologically sensitive area. Bharali noted that such visits underline how Assam has emerged as a key development hub under the NDA government. He cited major projects realized in recent years, including the Brahmaputra underwater tunnel, Guwahati Ring Road, Palashbari–Sualkuchi bridge, Dhubri–Phulbari bridge, Narengi–Kurua bridge, Dhola–Sadiya Bridge (Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Setu), Kamakhya Corridor, AIIMS Guwahati, the semiconductor project at Jagiroad, the proposed greenfield airport at Silchar, and the Numaligarh bamboo-based ethanol bio-refinery. Over the last decade, he said, Assam and the North-East—once neglected—have witnessed unprecedented development under Prime Minister Modi"s leadership. With more than 35 visits to the region, the Prime Minister"s engagement with Assam remains unmatched by any of his predecessors.
