The Chief Minister said the initiative is part of the state government’s effort to take Bagurumba, a traditional dance of the Bodo community, to the global stage and showcase Assam’s rich cultural heritage to the world.

CM Sarma informed that around 32,000 people have already collected entry passes for the programme. However, seating arrangements for nearly 20,000 people will not be available, as two galleries of the stadium have been closed to accommodate the dance performance. Separate arrangements have been made for those who will not be allowed entry inside the stadium.

The Chief Minister appealed to the public for cooperation and support to ensure the smooth conduct of the special event.

He also urged people not to gather on National Highway routes tomorrow, as large crowds are expected due to the Bagurumba programme and the Prime Minister’s roadshow. The police will keep the stretch from Jalukbari to Beltola clear to ensure smooth movement.

The Chief Minister requested BJP workers not to line up on the National Highway to welcome the Prime Minister. Instead, they have been asked to extend their welcome near the airport.

He further stated that over the next five years, the state government will make sustained efforts to take Assam’s art and culture to Delhi and other national platforms.

Clarifying the objective of the event, the Chief Minister said that the Bagurumba performance is not aimed at creating any record, but is purely intended as a cultural presentation.

Bagurumba to Take Centre Stage as Assam Showcases Folk Heritage on Global Platform

Earlier, Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah on Thursday said the mega Bagurumba presentation is part of the state government’s continued effort to preserve and promote Assam’s rich folk culture on a global platform. Following the successful showcases of Bihu and Jhumoir Binandini, Bagurumba will now be presented before Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The minister said the choreography and overall structure of the performance have been designed by 25 cultural experts from the Bodo community, while around 400 master trainers were engaged to train and coordinate the dancers. Rehearsals were conducted at the constituency level from January 8 to January 10, followed by centralized practice sessions at Sarusajai Stadium.

On seating arrangements, Borah stated that although Sarusajai Stadium has a capacity of 23,000, nearly 4,000 seats were removed to accommodate the large-scale performance area, allowing about 19,000 spectators to witness the event live.

He confirmed that entry passes for the January 17 programme have been exhausted. A total of 27,000 passes were distributed earlier from Rabindra Bhavan, Kalakshetra and Sarusajai Stadium, with around 7,000 pass holders from Guwahati and nearly 15,000 visitors expected from different parts of the state.

For those unable to obtain entry passes, the government has arranged for the public to watch the final rehearsal on January 16 from 5:30 pm in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Entry to Sarusajai Stadium on the day of the main event will begin at 2 pm.

Clarifying the objective of the programme, the minister said the event is not aimed at creating any world record but is intended to draw global attention to Assam’s diverse cultural heritage and promote unity among the state’s various ethnic communities.

The mega Bagurumba performance is expected to be one of the largest cultural showcases in Assam, highlighting the state’s traditions, unity and artistic richness on both national and international platforms.
