PM Modi’s Assam Visit: What’s on the Agenda (Jan 17–18, 2026)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Assam on January 17 and 18, 2026, with a packed schedule combining cultural celebration and major infrastructure initiatives.

On January 17, at around 6 PM, the Prime Minister will attend “Bagurumba Dwhou 2026”, a grand traditional Bodo cultural programme at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati. The historic event will witness over 10,000 artists from the Bodo community performing the Bagurumba dance in a single, synchronised presentation. Artists from 81 Assembly constituencies across 23 districts of Assam will take part, making it one of the largest coordinated folk dance performances in the state.

Bagurumba, a traditional folk dance of the Bodo community, is inspired by nature and symbolises blooming flowers and harmony between humans and the natural world. Traditionally performed by young women with men accompanying as musicians, the dance features gentle movements reflecting butterflies, birds, leaves and flowers. It holds deep cultural significance, representing peace, fertility, joy and collective harmony, and is closely associated with festivals such as Bwisagu and Domasi.

On January 18, at around 11 AM, the Prime Minister will be in Kaliabor, Nagaon district, where he will perform the Bhoomi Pujan of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a ₹6,950-crore environmentally sensitive infrastructure initiative. Passing through Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts, the project aims to improve connectivity to Upper Assam, particularly Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, while ensuring uninterrupted wildlife movement, reducing human–animal conflict, enhancing road safety and cutting travel time.
