On December 20, the Prime Minister will arrive in Guwahati around 3 PM. He will conduct a walkthrough and formally inaugurate the new Integrated Terminal Building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, followed by addressing a public gathering.

The next day, December 21, Modi will begin his schedule at approximately 9:45 AM by paying homage to martyrs at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati, commemorating those who sacrificed during the historic Assam Movement—a six-year agitation for protecting the state's identity and addressing issues related to foreign nationals.

Later, the Prime Minister will proceed to Namrup in Dibrugarh district to perform the Bhoomi Pujan for a new brownfield Ammonia-Urea Fertiliser Project at the existing site of Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited (BVFCL). He will also address the gathering there.

The new airport terminal represents a significant boost to Assam's connectivity and economic growth. Spanning nearly 1.4 lakh square metres, it is engineered to accommodate up to 1.3 crore passengers per year, with enhanced runway, airfield, apron, and taxiway systems.

Billed as India's first nature-themed airport terminal, it incorporates the "Bamboo Orchids" motif inspired by Assam's rich biodiversity and culture. Key features include extensive use of around 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced Northeast bamboo, Kaziranga-inspired landscaping, traditional japi designs, the one-horned rhino emblem, and 57 columns modelled on the Kopou orchid flower.

A standout element is the "Sky Forest"—an indoor green space with nearly one lakh indigenous plants, creating an immersive natural experience for travellers.

The facility emphasises modern convenience with full-body scanners, DigiYatra for contactless processing, automated baggage systems, expedited immigration, and AI-powered operations for enhanced efficiency and security.

The Ammonia-Urea Project, involving an investment exceeding Rs 10,600 crore, aligns with the Prime Minister's focus on farmer welfare. It aims to fulfil fertiliser needs in Assam and adjacent states, decrease reliance on imports, create substantial job opportunities, and drive industrial and economic progress in the region.
