"The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Thursday approved a series of major decisions focusing on industrial expansion, land reforms, ecological protection, sports recognition, and security infrastructure.Advertisment Among the key approvals, the Cabinet sanctioned the transfer of government land in favour of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) for the execution of the Namrup-IV Ammonia-Urea Brownfield Project. The project is aimed at strengthening fertilizer production in the Northeast and is expected to be completed within the next three to four years. The Cabinet also approved the appointment of Simu Das, a member of the Indian Women"s Blind Cricket Team that won the Women"s T20 Blind Cricket World Cup 2025, as a Physical Instructor under the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam, in accordance with the Integrated Sports Policy of the state. In a major step towards land rights for indigenous communities, the Cabinet cleared the allotment of Government Khas and Ceiling Surplus land for homestead purposes to 308 indigenous families under Mission Basundhara. District Commissioners have been assigned responsibility to ensure proper implementation of the decision. To bolster the security apparatus in the state, the Cabinet approved the transfer of 607 bighas of land at Kareng Chapori in Dhemaji district for the establishment of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Group Centre. Emphasising ecological conservation, the Cabinet decided to notify two wetlands in Goalpara district—Kumri Beel (270 hectares) and Dhamar Beel (337 hectares)—as Proposed Reserve Forests. The government clarified that local stakeholders would be consulted during the process of final decision-making. The Cabinet also approved the transfer of ceiling surplus land for distribution of land pattas to tea garden workers, reinforcing the state"s commitment to welfare measures in tea plantation areas. Additionally, land approvals were granted for the establishment of new industrial units. Responding to allegations made by the Raijor Dal, the Chief Minister clarified that there had been no political engagement or discussions with Garima Saikia Garg, the widow of Assam"s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, and described the political insinuations as unwarranted. Addressing the media, Chief Minister Sarma outlined the detailed itinerary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi"s upcoming visit to Assam on December 20 and 21. “The Prime Minister will arrive in Guwahati at around 2.45 pm on December 20, 2025. Upon arrival, he will unveil a statue of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. He will then inaugurate the new terminal of the Guwahati airport,” the Chief Minister said. Clarifying concerns regarding airport operations, Sarma stated that the old terminal would continue to operate international flights for some time due to customs and related requirements. “Eventually, the old terminal will be closed, and operations will be fully shifted to the new terminal. Construction of a second terminal is already underway, and airport activities will gradually transition to the new campus,” he added. Following the airport programme, the Prime Minister will address a public gathering in Jalukbari, Guwahati. He will then proceed to the state BJP headquarters through a roadshow, which is expected to see the participation of over two lakh BJP karyakartas, informed CM Sarma. While the public meeting venue itself can accommodate around 80,000 people, CM Sarma said supporters will line the entire stretch from Jalukbari point to BJP party office in Basistha, ensuring a continuous presence of BJP workers along the route. "At the party headquarters, the Prime Minister will hold meetings with BJP MPs, MLAs, and senior party leaders," added CM Sarma. On December 21, at 8 am, Prime Minister Modi will interact with 25 meritorious students of Assam as part of the "Pariksha Pe Charcha" programme aboard a river vessel named "Charaideo" while travelling on the Brahmaputra River for approximately 35 to 40 minutes. He will then pay floral tributes at the newly inaugurated Martyrs" Memorial at Boragaon, Guwahati, spending around 15 to 20 minutes at the site. Subsequently, the Prime Minister will garland the statue of Khageswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the historic Assam Movement. Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi will fly to Dibrugarh and proceed to Namrup, where he will address a public gathering at around 12 noon and lay the foundation stone of the Namrup urea plant.
