AssamAssam: Irregularities Alleged in Embankment Construction Work at NagarberaIrregularities alleged in embankment construction at Nagarbera in Assam, as locals claim sand is being dug from its base, raising fears of erosion and damage.DY365 Feb 24, 2026 13:29 ISTAllegations of serious irregularities have been reported in the ongoing embankment construction at Rangapani in Nagarbera under the Chamaria constituency of Assam's Kamrup district.AdvertismentThe Gumi–Nagarbera E&D embankment project, stretching nearly three kilometres from Rangapani to Natun Badla, is currently under construction. The project is reportedly worth around Rs 1.70 crore and is being carried out by contractor Jomir Khan. However, residents have alleged that sand is being dug from the base of the embankment and used for the construction work.According to the locals, machines are being used to dig sand from areas very close to the embankment, creating large pits near its foundation. They fear that this could weaken the embankment and cause serious erosion during the rainy season.AdvertismentFurthermore, they stressed that if the embankment gets damaged, it could affect a large area of farmland which is why the embankment is very important for protecting the region from floods.Locals claim that even after informing the contractor about the issue, the digging work has continued. They also said that no official project signboard has been put up at the site. The residents have demanded that the digging near the embankment should be immediately stopped and have urged the local administration to take proper action.AdvertismentALSO READ: Assam: Govt Apathy Pushes Tamulpur Anganwadi to RuinAdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
