Assam: Jhanji River Breach Triggers Severe Flooding in Jorhat's Teok

A catastrophic breach in the Jhanji River’s ring embankment has unleashed severe flooding across Teok, Jorhat, Assam, displacing hundreds of families and submerging at least ten villages.

The deluge has swept away homes, personal belongings, and numerous livestock, leaving vast areas of farmland and roads underwater.

Residents described the sudden and devastating impact of the floodwaters. “The water surged in so quickly we couldn’t save anything,” one affected individual recounted. Another resident voiced frustration, stating, “Year after year, we face the same tragedy because authorities fail to maintain roads and embankments. This will continue until they take accountability.”

Local disaster management teams and officials are actively monitoring the crisis, with water levels showing no immediate signs of receding. The administration has issued warnings for residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and prepared for further risks.
