The first day of the “Mongeet Festival” commenced today at Dekachang on the banks of the Luit River, converting Majuli’s tranquil riverside into a dynamic venue for music performances and artist mentorship.

Organized by Kaushik Nath in memory of his son, the event emphasizes nurturing young talent through direct guidance from established figures in Assam’s cultural landscape. Prominent participants include actor Adil Hussain, musicians Joi Barua, Kalyan Baruah, Dhrubajyoti Phukan, and poet Maitrayee Patar.

Young performers and students will receive personalized training in an open-air setting overlooking the Luit. The roster also features Nani Borpujari, Tarun Kalita, Bipul Jyoti Saikia, Mitali Dey, Atanu Bhattacharya, Anurag Saikia, Anindita Paul, and Rupam Bhuyan.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Lon Saikia attended the inaugural session, extending support to the initiative.

Unlike commercial music events, the festival prioritizes education and exposure for aspiring Assamese artists. Organizers aim to bolster the region’s musical heritage by providing public platforms and interactions with seasoned mentors, fostering confidence and artistic development.

The “Mongeet Festival” has established itself as a key platform for emerging voices, reinforcing Majuli’s significance in Assam’s cultural ecosystem.
