Back to School, But Not Before 10: Kamrup Metro’s Winter Schedule Begins

Schools across Kamrup Metropolitan district reopened on Wednesday with revised timings after remaining closed for several days due to severe cold weather conditions.

The educational institutions had been shut from December 31 to January 6 as a precautionary measure to safeguard students’ health.

According to an official notification issued by the Office of the District Elementary Education Officer under Samagra Shiksha, the district administration has decided to resume classes from today while implementing a temporary change in school timings. The revised schedule will remain in effect from January 7 to January 13, 2026, following directions from the Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner.

As per the revised arrangement, Primary Schools will function from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, Upper Primary Schools from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, while Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools will operate from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the prevailing cold conditions and the safety of students.

All heads of government, provincialised, and private schools have been instructed to strictly adhere to the revised timings. The education department has warned that any deviation from the order will be viewed seriously. However, all pre-scheduled examinations, if any, will be conducted as per earlier notifications.

The order has come into force with immediate effect in the interest of public safety and student welfare.
