"GUWAHATI: It was meant to be a deeply personal day. The day, however, unfolded differently.Advertisment Garima Saikia Garg fell unwell on Wednesday, the day marking her 24th wedding anniversary—an anniversary she observed in the absence of her husband, Assam"s beloved cultural icon, the late Zubeen Garg. She was examined by a team of four doctors at Peerless Hospital in Guwahati after complaining of discomfort. Doctors later confirmed that she was experiencing low blood pressure along with nerve-related issues. The good news: hospitalization was not required. She has been advised complete rest and is currently stable, though doctors described her condition as mildly unwell. Given her health, Garima chose to stay away from media interactions. Hospital sources said she remains under observation. And yet, despite not being at her best physically, the day did not pass quietly. Let"s be honest—most people would have stepped back. Garima Saikia Garg didn"t. The day also saw a humanitarian initiative led by her in collaboration with Peerless Hospital, Guwahati, and popular singer and artist Zublee Baruah. As part of the programme, around 40 elderly women from Mathgharia Mother"s Home Old Age Shelter and the Sonapur Government Old Age Home were provided free medical care at Peerless Hospital. The women received medical check-ups, specialist consultations, diagnostic tests, and medicines—entirely free of cost. Peerless Hospital bore all expenses and also arranged transportation to ensure the elderly beneficiaries faced no difficulty reaching the hospital. Under Garima Saikia Garg"s initiative, the hospital staff went the extra mile. A dedicated team of specialist doctors and technical personnel carried out detailed examinations and provided treatment based on individual needs. Earlier today, speaking on the occasion, Dr Gautam Kumar Das, Chief Executive Officer of Peerless Hospital, Guwahati, said: “At Peerless Hospital Guwahati, we believe quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone. Caring for senior citizens is not just a responsibility—it"s a privilege. We are glad to support this initiative led by Garima Saikia Garg and Zublee Baruah, and we remain committed to continuing such meaningful programmes in the future.” Garima Saikia Garg also expressing her gratitude, said: “These mothers deserve the same care and attention we give our own families. I sincerely thank Peerless Hospital Guwahati for their wholehearted support. Even small efforts can bring comfort, smiles, and peace of mind to those who need it most.” Singer and artist Zublee Baruah was present throughout the programme and actively engaged with the elderly women. She spent time speaking with them, offering emotional support and assisting them during the medical process. February 4 carries deep emotional weight for Garima Saikia Garg. It was on this day that she and Zubeen Garg had promised to walk through life together. After his sudden passing on September 19 last year, she chose not to let the day be defined by loss alone. Instead, she dedicated it to service—quietly turning remembrance into compassion. The initiative has drawn widespread appreciation, particularly for its focus on dignified healthcare for senior citizens living in old age homes. Meanwhile, the Peerless Hospital management reiterated that it will continue to support such people-focused welfare efforts in the future.
