In a press release issued from the party's state headquarters, Vajpayee Bhawan, BJP spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami directly responded to Gogoi's recent social media remarks on the chargesheet submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Goswami challenged Gogoi's assertion, made during a Facebook Live session on December 16, that he possessed a copy of the chargesheet related to CID Police Station Case No. 18/2025. He pointed out that, as per the directives in PRC Case No. 4084/2025 from the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Kamrup (Metro), copies were distributed solely to the relevant jail authorities holding the seven accused, including Siddharth and Shyamkanu.

Additionally, a pen drive with the chargesheet was provided only to authorised family members of the accused who attended the court proceedings. "No third party has received any copy of the chargesheet to date," Goswami emphasised.

The BJP leader alleged that if Gogoi indeed has access to the document, it must have been obtained from the accused or their close relatives, suggesting "hidden links" between the MLA and those involved.

Goswami further criticised Gogoi for consistently trying to undermine the credibility of the SIT's chargesheet and for acting "like a defence counsel" for the accused, thereby indirectly protecting them. He went on to claim that Gogoi is involved in efforts to pressure potential government witnesses identified by the SIT to secure convictions.

The party also praised the Assam government, noting that under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's leadership, the Home Department wrapped up the probe in just 86 days and submitted the chargesheet, facilitating a swift trial process.

As of now, Akhil Gogoi has not issued any response to the BJP's accusations.
