In her post, Garima Saikia Garg said that the Public Prosecutor team has been officially announced under the leadership of senior advocate Ziaur Kamar (Special Public Prosecutor).

She conveyed her respect, gratitude and heartfelt thanks to senior advocates Brajendra Mohan Choudhury (additional SSP), Kishore Datta, Pranjal Dutta and Bikash Jamar, who are part of the five-member legal team. She said that the collective wisdom, long years of practice and vast experience of the legal experts have become a source of strength and confidence for them.

Garima further stated that not only Assam but the entire world is now looking towards the legal team with trust and hope, expecting that the fight for justice will be carried forward with greater strength, courage and determination, and that justice will ultimately be established in court. She expressed hope that the legal team would fight with full commitment to ensure that the perpetrators, whom she described as “inhuman criminals”, are awarded the harshest possible punishment under the law.

She added that her family, along with the people of Assam, stands firmly behind the legal team, offering prayers, best wishes and blessings. Reiterating her faith in the country’s legal and judicial system, Garima said that the Assam government bears full responsibility in ensuring justice for Zubeen Garg, an artist loved by millions. She emphasized that this case is not just a legal battle but is deeply connected with the emotions, sentiments and collective conscience of the people of Assam, making it a fight of the entire state against the accused.

Garima Saikia Garg expressed hope that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure a speedy and effective judicial process. She also appealed for continued support, cooperation and proper guidance from the people of Assam, the government and the judiciary, praying for divine intervention to ensure victory in the fight for justice.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam government has appointed a Special Public Prosecutor team in the Zubeen Garg murder case following a decision taken at the state cabinet meeting held on January 9. The five-member team will be led by senior advocate Ziaur Kamar. Brajendra Mohan Choudhury has been appointed as the Additional Special Public Prosecutor, while advocates Kishore Dutta, Pranjal Dutta and Bikash Jamar will assist in the case.

Welcoming the government’s decision, Garima Saikia Garg thanked the Chief Minister and the state cabinet for taking this step. She expressed confidence that justice will be delivered through the efforts of this experienced and senior legal team.

It has been informed that all accused in the Zubeen Garg murder case have already engaged legal counsel. Advocates from Kolkata will represent Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma in court. Meanwhile, Sadhan Kalita will represent Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and Anan Kumar Bhuyan will appear on behalf of Amritprabha Mahanta.

The next hearing of the Zubeen Garg murder case is scheduled for January 17. From the upcoming hearings onwards, the five-member senior advocate team appointed by the government will represent Zubeen Garg’s side in court.

Meanwhile, the state cabinet has also welcomed the formation of the Zubeen Garg Trust and announced a financial assistance of ₹5 crore. The government has assured full cooperation for any welfare schemes or initiatives undertaken by the trust in the future.

Earlier, when the case reached the court, there was widespread concern among the people of Assam that the accused might exploit legal loopholes and escape punishment, and whether a single Public Prosecutor would be able to effectively handle the complex proceedings.

However, following the cabinet’s decision on January 9 to constitute a Special Public Prosecutor team, there is renewed hope among the people of Assam that Zubeen Garg’s case will now be strongly and effectively represented in court.

In another significant development, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), under the leadership of MP Gaurav Gogoi, has also constituted a committee of senior advocates to closely monitor the progress of the investigation and judicial proceedings in the death case of late Zubeen Garg.

The committee comprises senior advocate Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury, senior advocate Ram Prasad Sarmah, advocate Dilip Choudhury, advocate Hamidur Rahman, advocate Hemanta Kalita, and advocate Rubi Gogoi.

The APCC stated that the committee will closely observe the legal process to ensure transparency, accountability and justice in the case.
