The induction ceremony took place at the BJP’s state headquarters, Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati, attended by BJP state chief Dilip Saikia and party MP Baijayant Panda, among others. Alongside Borah, other former Congress workers, including Sanju Bora, also joined the saffron party.

Borah, who quit the Congress earlier this week after 32 years of association, had submitted his resignation on February 16, saying he felt sidelined by the party’s state leadership. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had confirmed Borah’s BJP entry ahead of the formal ceremony, describing his switch as a major blow to the Congress ahead of the polls.

The move is expected to have significant implications in Assam’s Upper Assam region, where electoral equations are rapidly evolving, and Borah may be considered as a BJP candidate in the upcoming elections.
