Guwahati Police Crackdown on Fake Currency: Seize ₹10 Lakh in Counterfeit Notes, Arrest Three Suppliers

GUWAHATI: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Guwahati Police seized a huge haul of counterfeit currency during a successful raid in the Betkuchi area of Guwahati, Assam, on Friday.

Acting on specific intelligence, the SOG team recovered fake Indian currency notes worth RS 10 lakh and arrested three suspected individuals involved in supplying counterfeit money across the city.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mujammil Khan, Abdul Kalam Azad, and Rubial Ali.

All three were living as tenants in Khanka, Hatigaon, and had been running the illegal fake-note racket for a long time.

During the operation, police also seized two motorcycles used by the accused (registration numbers AS-01-BK-5909 and AS-01-BG-5788) along with three mobile phones.

The raid has dealt a major blow to the counterfeit currency network operating in the capital region, police said.

Police officials said the accused were actively circulating fake notes in local markets and have now been taken into custody for detailed interrogation.

“Interrogation is ongoing to uncover the full network, including the source of the fake notes and other possible associates,” a senior police officer told reporters.

The Guwahati Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious transactions involving high-denomination notes.

Further investigation is underway, and more arrests are likely in the coming days, an official said.
