As per reports, the accused cleric made the advances on the girl, terming it to be “holy” and in the name of God (Allah).

Following the incident, tensions escalated in the area.’

The accused has been identified as Moktar Hussain and is further claimed to be operating an alleged illegal residential girls’ madrassa.

The shocking incident reportedly occurred at the Banat (girls’) madrassa late at night, triggering outrage among the local residents.

Hussain allegedly asked the minor girl to sleep on the same bed with him, as it was a ‘holy’ thing according to the godman!

When the minor girl refused to comply as per the cleric’s instructions, he issued threats (fatwa).

Reportedly shocked and frightened, the girl is said to have immediately informed a nearby resident, identified as Shirajul Shikari, about the incident. On being alerted, residents rushed to the madrassa, apprehended the accused cleric, and subsequently handed him over to the Balajan Police.

Residents further alleged that the madrasa management committee is attempting to suppress the matter instead of ensuring justice for the victim.

The locals further complained that repeated offences like rape and sexual exploitation of girl students inside the same madrassa had been reported earlier, but such cases were routinely hushed up.

Locals also allege that the girls’ madrasa has been operating illegally for many years and has been a site of continuous sexual abuse of its students.

Police have initiated an investigation into the latest complaint and are said to be examining the role of the madrasa management as well. Meanwhile, there are allegations that a group is actively trying to “manage” or influence the victim’s family, raising concerns over attempts to derail the process of justice.
