According to reports, the hackers allegedly gained unauthorised access to the page, possibly through link-baiting or phishing techniques. Soon after the breach, several obscene images and posts were uploaded from the verified account, causing alarm among followers and the public.

However, the police department did not exactly clarify how the incident took place and instead appealed to the public to ignore the recent posts or messages.

Reports added that the Dhubri Police promptly responded to the incident and issued a public clarification on other official channels.

A police statement read:

"PUBLIC NOTICE
The official Facebook page of Dhubri Police was subjected to unauthorised access today. Please ignore the recent posts, messages, status or updates coming from the page. The page has been restored. Thank you for your cooperation."

Police confirmed that the page has now been secured and restored to full control of the Dhubri Police administration.

Cybercrime officials are reportedly investigating the incident to trace the source of the hack and identify those responsible.

Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant against suspicious links and messages, even when they appear to come from trusted or official sources.

However, an official page of a police department falling victim to such a "hacking" incident raises questions on the training and capabilities of officials involved in managing the page.

Further details will be updated.
