Music Institution row: Zubeen Garg's name used by Tarsame Mittal without his direct involvement?

Tarsame Mittal, the former manager of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning in connection with Garg's death. Mittal, who managed Garg's career for several years, is facing allegations of financial irregularities and opening a music institution in Garg's name without his direct involvement.

Tarsame Mittal started working with Zubeen Garg in 2002. In 2004, he managed events for artists in Mumbai, including Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winner Devojit Saha. Mittal became Zubeen Garg's manager in 2006-07 and later moved to Mumbai in 2014 to manage artists through his company, TM Management.
In 2014, Mittal gave Siddharth the responsibility of overseeing Zubeen's work, paying him Rs 12,000 per month. In 2021, Mittal formed a music company, Zubeen Garg Music LLP, with Zubeen Garg and Siddharth Sharma. As a partner, Mittal earns a share of Zubeen's royalties.
 

The SIT is investigating Garg's death, which occurred in Singapore on September 19, 2025. Seven people have been arrested so far, including event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg's cousin and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandipan Garg, manager Siddharth Sharma, and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta.

Mittal's role in Garg's financial dealings is under scrutiny, with allegations of major financial scams while working as a manager. Mittal has managed several notable artists, including Arijit Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Amit Trivedi, through his company TM Ventures.
The investigation is ongoing. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured that the entire sequence of events related to Garg's death will be presented before the court soon.
