Prabhati Thaosen appointed new Chairperson of Assam Public Service Commission

Guwahati| The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) has got a new chairperson with the appointment of Prabhati Thaosen, a retired IAS officer of 2010 batch.

In a significant development, Prabhati Thaosen, a retired IAS officer, has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). The appointment was made by the Governor of Assam, exercising powers conferred by Article 316, and will take effect from the date of her assuming charge.

Thaosen will succeed Deboraj Upadhyay, who took charge as chairperson in January this year. A 2010-batch IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Thaosen has had a distinguished career in the civil service, serving as Secretary in the Border Protection & Development Department and the Tourism Department.

Born on November 11, 1965, Thaosen is a trailblazing female civil servant who has made significant contributions to the administration of Assam. Her appointment as chairperson of the APSC is expected to bring in fresh perspectives and leadership to the commission.

The APSC is a constitutional body responsible for recruiting candidates for various government jobs in Assam through competitive examinations and interviews. As chairperson, Thaosen will play a crucial role in shaping the commission's policies and decisions.
