RPI (Athawale) Names Hirak Jyoti Bora as Candidate for Dhing Seat in 2026 Assam Assembly Polls

The Republican Party of India (Athawale), an ally in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has announced Hirak Jyoti Bora, its Assam State Working President, as the official candidate from the Dhing Legislative Assembly Constituency for the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

The declaration came during the party's Assam State General Meeting and Mass Joining Program held on December 29 at Bishnu Nirmala Bhawan in Latasil, Guwahati. The event saw several prominent social workers and leaders from across the state formally joining the RPI (A) Assam unit.

Hirak Jyoti Bora, a resident of Dhing and known for his advocacy on indigenous rights, gained international attention earlier for addressing the United Nations on issues concerning Assam's native communities. The move signals the party's intent to strengthen its presence in the Nagaon district ahead of the polls scheduled for March-April 2026.

Alongside the candidate announcement, the meeting focused on organisational strategies to bolster the party's footprint in Assam. The RPI (A), led nationally by Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, is expanding its base in the Northeast.

Dhing, currently represented by AIUDF's Aminul Islam, is a key constituency in central Assam.
