Zubeen Garg Fans Confront Himanta Biswa Sarma, Renew Demand for Justice in Assam

Guwahati: Various groups of supporters of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg on Monday confronted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a public interaction in Tihu town of Nalbari and sought justice for the late singer.

Slogans were also raised demanding justice over the recent controversy involving the death of the popular artiste.

The incident took place at Tihu in Nalbari, where the chief minister had arrived during the ongoing Ashirwaad Yatra. As CM Sarma interacted with people at the venue, several fans of Zubeen Garg gathered nearby and began questioning the government’s stance on the issue, urging authorities to ensure fairness and transparency.

Eyewitnesses said the group repeatedly raised the slogan “Justice for Zubeen Da," reflecting the strong emotional support the singer continues to receive from his fans across Assam.

The situation briefly turned tense as the supporters tried to draw the chief minister's attention, expressing their dissatisfaction and demanding that the government intervene to ensure that the matter is handled properly. Security personnel present at the venue later managed to calm the crowd and prevent any escalation.

Responding to the situation, CM Sarma reportedly assured the gathering that the law would take its own course and that no injustice would be allowed.

Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most influential cultural icons, commands a massive following in the state and across the Northeast. Any controversy involving the singer often sparks strong reactions from his supporters, many of whom view him not just as an entertainer but as a voice of Assamese identity and culture.

Meanwhile, fans have continued to take to social media platforms, demanding clarity and fairness in the matter. Several fan groups have also hinted at organising peaceful demonstrations if their concerns are not addressed.
