Dharmendra Returns Home to Prayers and Love, Not Rumours and Chaos

In a major relief to fans and well-wishers, veteran actor Dharmendra has been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after being admitted on October 31 due to complaints of breathlessness.

The 89-year-old legend, who was under medical supervision for nearly two weeks, will now continue his recovery at home.

Early Wednesday morning, an ambulance was seen leaving the hospital for the actor’s Juhu residence. Confirming his condition, Dr. Prof. Pratit Samdani, who was treating Dharmendra, said:

“Mr Dharmendra ji Deol has been discharged this morning from the hospital at 7:30 am. His recovery will continue at home.”

The family also issued an official statement requesting privacy and restraint from the media:

“Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We kindly request the media and the public to refrain from any further speculation and to respect his and the family's privacy during this time. We appreciate everyone's love, prayers, and good wishes for his continued recovery, good health, and long life. Please respect him because he loves you.”

During his hospital stay, Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Govinda were among those who visited the ailing actor, reflecting the immense respect and affection he continues to command across the film fraternity.

Dharmendra, who made his debut in 1960, went on to become one of Indian cinema’s most beloved figures. From his iconic role as Veeru in Sholay to memorable performances in Phool Aur Patthar, Seeta Aur Geeta, Chupke Chupke, Dharam Veer, and Pratigya, the actor’s career — spanning over 300 films — stands as a testament to his versatility and enduring charisma.

However, the moment of relief was preceded by chaos across social media and television networks late Tuesday night, when unverified reports falsely claimed that the actor had passed away. The rumours, which spread rapidly, forced his family to issue strong denials.

A visibly upset Esha Deol rushed to the hospital and later posted on Instagram:

“THE MEDIA SEEMS TO BE IN OVERDRIVE AND SPREADING FALSE NEWS. MY FATHER IS STABLE & RECOVERING. WE REQUEST EVERYONE TO GIVE OUR FAMILY PRIVACY. THANK YOU FOR THE PRAYERS FOR PAPA’S SPEEDY RECOVERY.”

Echoing her daughter’s frustration, Hema Malini took to X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the misinformation:

“What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and recovering? This is extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy.”

The episode serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked reporting and the urgent need for media responsibility — especially when it concerns a national treasure whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
