Guwahati to Observe Holiday on March 4 for Holi

Assam govt has declared March 4 a local holiday in Kamrup (Metro), including Guwahati, for Holi. All govt offices, schools and financial institutions will remain closed.

Guwahati: The Assam government has declared a local holiday in Kamrup (Metro) district, which encompasses Guwahati, on March 4 in observance of Dol Jatra (Holi).

According to an official notification issued by the General Administration Department, all state government offices and educational institutions within the district will remain closed for the day. The order also extends to financial institutions operating in Kamrup (Metro), which will suspend operations in line with provisions under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The holiday will be applicable across the entire Kamrup (Metro) district, covering its five subdivisions — Guwahati, Dispur, Chandrapur, Sonapur and Azara.

Dol Jatra, widely celebrated across Assam, marks the spring festival of colours and is observed with religious rituals and community festivities in several parts of the state. The announcement ensures that residents of the district can participate in the celebrations without administrative or institutional engagements.
