Noted Flautist Dipak Sarma Laid to Rest Amid Tears and Tributes in Guwahati

The last rites of celebrated flautist Dipak Sarma were performed today at the Navagraha crematorium with full state honours. Fans, well-wishers, and admirers gathered in large numbers to pay their final respects to the maestro, whose soulful melodies had long resonated with the spirit of Assam.

Earlier in the day, the mortal remains of the renowned musician, who passed away in Chennai on Monday morning, were flown back to Guwahati via a special chartered flight. From the airport, the body was taken to his Ambikagiri Nagar residence, where close family members performed the final household rituals before the public homage began.

Following the family rites, the body was taken to Seuj Sangha, where admirers, cultural groups, and supporters offered their tributes between 10 AM and 2 PM. As the coffin arrived, a solemn silence enveloped the crowd. The sound of a bamboo flute filled the air — a poignant echo of the maestro’s lifelong devotion to his art.

Later, the body was taken to the Navagraha crematorium, where the final rites were performed. With state honours and heartfelt tributes, Dipak Sarma was laid to rest — bringing to an end the remarkable journey of a musician whose flute had become one with the very soul of Assam.
