"Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Assam on a two-day visit, during which several high-profile programmes have been scheduled in Guwahati.Advertisment As part of the visit, the Prime Minister will interact with students under the flagship initiative "Pariksha Pe Charcha", which will be held in a unique setting on the Brahmaputra river. According to official sources, the Prime Minister will engage with around 25 to 30 students aboard a specially-prepared vessel. The interaction will focus on examination preparedness, stress management, motivation, and academic discipline. Ahead of the Prime Minister"s arrival, elaborate preparations have been made at the Guwahati entry point, particularly in and around the Fancy Bazar riverfront area. A special vessel named "Charaideo–II (WB 1734)" has been readied exclusively for the Prime Minister"s river-based programme. In view of the visit and for security reasons, the Inland Water Transport (IWT) Division, Ulubari, has ordered the temporary suspension of all private boats and vessels operating in Guwahati. As per an official order issued by the Office of the Executive Engineer, all private boats will remain off service from December 20, 2025, till 12 noon on December 21, 2025. The order directs all concerned authorities to ensure strict compliance with the suspension, which has been implemented with the approval of the competent authority. Copies of the directive have been forwarded to senior officials of the IWT Department, the IWT Regulatory Authority Assam, AIWTC, River Police Pandu, and other concerned agencies for information and necessary action. Security has been significantly tightened across the riverfront and adjoining areas, with a multi-layered security cover in place. River traffic restrictions have also been imposed as part of the security protocol. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived at the Guwahati entry point to review the arrangements ahead of the Prime Minister"s programme. The city police and other security agencies remain on high alert as Guwahati prepares to host the Prime Minister for this landmark river-based interaction with students.
