Two Cousins Arrested for Allegedly Raping Minor Girl in Guwahati

Guwahati has once again witnessed a disturbing crime as a minor girl was allegedly raped by two youths in the city. The incident took place in Birkuchi, Narengi, where the accused reportedly exploited the girl over a period of time.

According to police, the two accused — Gaurav Barman and Jitul Thakuria — had been sexually assaulting the 17-year-old girl by luring her with various inducements. The accused had allegedly maintained physical relations with the minor for several days.

The survivor, unable to bear the continued mental harassment and exploitation, disclosed the entire ordeal to her parents. Shocked by the revelations, the family filed a formal complaint at Noonmati Police Station in Guwahati.

Following the FIR, Noonmati Police registered a case and arrested both accused individuals. A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the investigation is currently underway.

It is noteworthy that both accused — Gaurav Barman and Jitul Thakuria — are relatives of the victim, identified as her cousins.
