Assam: Principal accused of entering women's washroom and assaulting student in Orang

Udalguri: A school principal in Udalguri, Assam, has been accused of forcefully entering the women's washroom and assaulting a female student over reasons not disclosed.

The allegations have been levelled against Arvind Kumar Singh, the principal of a model school in Majbat of Udalguri, Assam.

According to reports, on November 14, during Children's Day celebrations, female students entered the women's washroom to change clothes after performing a dance. The principal allegedly barged in and physically assaulted one of the students. He is also accused of sexually harassing women in the school.

The incident triggered widespread outrage the following day, November 15, leading to chaotic scenes on the school premises. Local residents, parents of the students, members of certain student organisations gathered at the school, demanding strict punishment for the principal.

Police had to be deployed to control the situation. Even at the police station, the agitated crowd continued to press for appropriate action.

According to complaints, Principal Singh had been casting lustful glances at female teachers and students for a long time. A co-teacher alleged that he would ask unmarried female staff, "Do you have a boyfriend?" If they replied no, he would reportedly say, "How can you manage at this age without a boyfriend? When will you get married? How does it feel to live alone?" He is also accused of drawing the door curtain whenever a female teacher entered his office.

A local said that this incident, crossing all boundaries on Children's Day, has raised serious concerns about the safety of students and the school's reputation.
