A major allegation of illegal money collection has surfaced from the parking area beneath the Sixmile flyover in Guwahati, where a group of individuals is reportedly extorting money from commuters without any authorised permit.

Locals claim the operators do not possess any valid order or approval from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) authorities to run the parking zone. Even more concerning, when motorists ask for a proper parking receipt, they are allegedly handed outdated slips from Bhangagarh, some from 2023, raising serious questions about authenticity and accountability.

On Wednesday, a commuter who had parked his car for only ten minutes was allegedly charged Rs 30. Expressing frustration, he said,

“I have not got a proper GMC receipt and was charged Rs 30 after parking the car for ten minutes. This is not done, I will pay more if needed, but I need a proper receipt.”

Residents say that despite multiple complaints, both the GMC and the district administration have failed to crack down on the illegal syndicate. The unregulated operations continue to exploit commuters in broad daylight, prompting growing public outrage.

Social media users have started amplifying the issue with hashtags like #AssamPolice, urging immediate intervention.

Citizens are now demanding strict action from the authorities to bring transparency, enforce lawful parking management, and dismantle the extortion network running openly under the Sixmile flyover.
