The accident took place yesterday at Boripara, along the Maligaon–Adabari road. The victim, Montu Das, who lived in the same locality, was trying to cross the road when a speeding two-wheeler suddenly came at him and knocked him down. People nearby said the impact was so strong that the bike dragged him for several metres before finally stopping.

What shocked many was the condition of the motorcycle after the crash. It was almost completely crushed, and even more worrying—it didn’t have a registration number plate. Bystanders warn that such bikes roam freely in the area, and without action, the next fatal accident is inevitable.

Caught on CCTV

A nearby CCTV camera captured the entire incident. Guwahati traffic police are now examining the footage, which is expected to be crucial in understanding exactly what happened.

Sadly, Montu Das couldn’t survive the injuries. The biker himself was also badly hurt and has been taken to the hospital. Police have not released the rider’s identity yet.

Locals Angry and Frustrated

Meanwhile, the people living in the area say they have complained many times about the “biker menace” but nothing changes. Young riders speeding, performing stunts, or driving without proper documents have become a common sight, especially on stretches like this one.

Residents now want the District administration and traffic police to take stricter action before more lives are lost.
