Assam: Massive Early-Morning Blaze Destroys 25 Homes in Jorhat’s Fancy Ali Area, No Casualties Reported

Jorhat: A devastating fire ripped through a densely packed residential pocket in Fasi Ali (Fancy Ali) locality of Jorhat town in Assam in the early hours of Monday, reducing around 25 rented huts and small houses to ashes within minutes.

The fire is believed to have originated in a narrow lane around 3 a.m. and rapidly engulfed adjoining structures, fuelled by multiple LPG cylinder blasts that sent flames soaring and hampered initial rescue efforts.

Two four-wheelers parked in the vicinity were also completely gutted.

Fire tenders from Jorhat and nearby stations rushed to the spot and, after a prolonged battle, brought the blaze under control. Fortunately, all residents managed to escape in time, and no loss of life or serious injury was averted.

Local administration and relief teams have started a damage assessment survey while arranging immediate relief, including food, clothing and temporary shelter for the displaced families, most of whom lost all their possessions.

Eyewitnesses described the inferno as “terrifyingly sudden,” with exploding cylinders creating panic as people fled with whatever they could carry.

Officials have appealed to residents to exercise extreme caution while handling LPG cylinders and electrical appliances, especially in congested settlements, to avoid such tragedies in future. An inquiry into the exact cause of the fire has been ordered.
