"Congress leaders in Assam sharply criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi"s recent visit to Manipur, calling it belated amid the state"s ongoing ethnic strife, which has persisted for over two years. Advertisment During a press conference on Monday, Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi highlighted Modi"s extensive international travels, noting that the Prime Minister visited 39 countries, some multiple times, before addressing Manipur"s crisis. Labelling the visit as “too little, too late,” Bordoloi stressed that the INC (Indian National Congress) had repeatedly urged Modi to visit since Manipur violence erupted in May 2022, underscoring the need for prompt intervention. He accused the BJP of distorting facts during Modi"s Northeast tour, particularly refuting claims about Rahul Gandhi"s stance on Operation Sindoor. “Rahul Gandhi has consistently supported our armed forces, and these misrepresentations are baseless,” Bordoloi clarified. The Congress also challenged the BJP"s attacks on India"s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, with Bordoloi demanding evidence to substantiate such claims. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia criticised the BJP"s contradictory rhetoric, pointing out the irony of celebrating Assamese musician Bhupen Hazarika"s birth centenary while promoting divisive politics. Saikia noted that Hazarika"s legacy of unity stood in stark contrast to the ruling party"s approach. It may be mentioned that during his visit, he laid the foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth Rs 7,300 crore and inaugurated projects valued at Rs 1,200 crore."
