Eight Militants from Banned Groups Arrested in Coordinated Operations Across Manipur

Manipur Police and security forces on Wednesday conducted a series of coordinated operations across Imphal West, Imphal East, and Tengnoupal districts, resulting in the arrest of eight alleged active members of proscribed militant outfits.

Guwahati: Manipur Police and security forces on Wednesday conducted a series of coordinated operations across Imphal West, Imphal East, and Tengnoupal districts, resulting in the arrest of eight alleged active members of proscribed militant outfits.

Police said two individuals linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP–MFL) were apprehended from Khabi Mamang Leikai in Imphal West district. The arrested persons were identified as Thangjam Goutam Singh (19) and Diamond Chingshubam (24). Authorities alleged that the duo was involved in extortion activities.

Security personnel seized a Royal Enfield Meteor motorcycle, two mobile phones, and an Aadhaar card from their possession.

In a separate operation in Imphal East district, police arrested Khulem Kulajit Singh (20), an alleged active cadre of KCP (Apunba), from Khurai Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai under Porompat police station. One mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered from him.

Another alleged member of KCP (Apunba), identified as Chabungbam Taisan Meitei (21), was arrested from Khurai Laishram Leikai near Chairenthong under Porompat police station. Originally from Ekou in Sadu Koireng, Imphal East district, he is currently staying at Sajiwa Relief Camp. Police recovered one M20 pistol along with a magazine and a mobile handset from his possession.

Meanwhile, Athokpam Derrick Singh (22), also linked to KCP (Apunba), was arrested from Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai in the Imphal West district. Police alleged that he was involved in a bomb explosion at Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai on 3 February. Two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card were seized during his arrest.

In Tengnoupal district, security forces apprehended three alleged active members of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) from the general area of Moirangthel village near BP 88 under Tengnoupal police station. The arrested individuals were identified as Abujam Naba Meeitei (49) of Wangoo Terakhong in Bishnupur district, Ningthoujam Kunjabihari Singh (30) of Moirang in Bishnupur district, and Ningthoujam Manglem Singh (45) of Heirok Part-III in Thoubal district.
