Manipur: Police, Forces Arrest Active KCP-PWG Cadre Involved in Extortion and Arms Smuggling

Imphal: In a major breakthrough amid ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and crime, Manipur Police, in coordination with central security forces, arrested a 25-year-old active member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party–People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) during a targeted operation conducted over the last 24 hours.

The arrested individual has been identified as Huidrom Vikash Singh, alias Sanamacha, a resident of Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai in Imphal West district. He was apprehended from the Thongju Waikhom Khongnang area in Canchipur on Sunday.

According to reports, Sanamacha was actively involved in extortion from educational institutions and the general public across the Imphal valley, besides having links to insurgent networks and arms smuggling rackets.

One mobile phone and several incriminating documents were recovered from his possession. He has been handed over to the Singjamei Police Station for further investigation and legal action.

The arrest comes as part of intensified security operations aimed at restoring law and order in the ethnic violence-hit state.

Meanwhile, security forces continued area domination exercises and search operations in vulnerable and fringe areas across various hill and valley districts.

To ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities, authorities facilitated the smooth movement of 216 vehicles along National Highway-37. Enhanced security arrangements, including convoys on sensitive routes, have been put in place to guarantee the safe passage of vehicular traffic.
